In 1998 the City of Coventry invited Schein to imagine a project for the Millenium Plazza, Schein built the lines of time anchored into the ground of England were the time zone system was invented and where the World War II left strong marks of destruction. The resulting Time Zone Clock is a monumental urban clock were people can read the time by counting the numbers of lines lit.
At the time of the fall of the Berlin wall, the artist Françoise Schein created the Association INSCRIRE as formal non-profit association. Conceived as a positive action, the project was reaffirming the possibility to create transversal links between art, ethics, urbanism and citizenship.
INSCRIRE works with local populations in communities throughout the European Union and the world to conceive and create artistic works and events which highlight human rights principles and cultural diversity, and spark discussion and reflection about both.
Little by little, the project expanded in other countries and it became a network of projects managed by a multidisciplinary team.
